OBIEE 11g Cloning using T2P process !!
Hi Guys,
Came back with cloning of OBIEE environment using T2P process.
Check the same in this blog and have fun
- Before starting cloning, assuming there is already configured OBIEE environment.
Now, take the logical backup of DEV_MDS and DEV_BIPLATFORM schemas.
- Create necessary directory structures to take the snap clone of middleware binaries , domains and instance configuration.
- Taking the snap clone of all Middleware binaries.
Note: Edit the machine config in config.xml of the domain before taking snap clone of domains.
- Now, stop and start the BI services to pick up the edited information which we done in config.xml of domain.
- Now take the snap clone of domain configuration.
- In below screenshot, we are taking the snap clone of instance configuration.
- Copy all the snap clone and dump files to the target machine.
- Now, in the target machine import the logical backup which we took in the source machine.
- Create necessary directory structures in the target machine.
- Copy all snap clone jar files and pasteBinary.sh, pastConfig.sh, cloningclient.jar files to the target machine.
- Set JAVA_HOME and execute pasteBinary.sh to paste all the middleware binaries.
- Extract the move plan from the domain and instance configuration snap clone jar’s and do the necessary edition according to the target environment.
Edit the moveplan.xml of domain by giving correct jdbc connections , port numbers, machine names and also passing password file with absolute path.
- Paste the domain configuration using edited move plan.
- Extract the move plan for instance configuration using instance snap clone jar.
- Paste the instance configuration using edited move plan.
- After pasting instance configuration, start the system components.
- Now check by logging into WebLogic console using 8001 port number which was changed in move plan of domain configuration.
- After checking console, check the analytics page as well.
Hope this find’s you well, any queries and any more information let me know.
Thank you and happy learning!!!

Hussain,
Thank you so much for explaining the process on how to clone an OBIEE instance i have managed to do so successfully. I however have a question, are the steps exactly the same in the case that you’re refreshing an already existing TEST instance of OBIEE from the PROD instance?
Regards
Edwin
Hi,
Sorry for the delay in reply, Yes mostly the same steps, I followed the Oracle document to achieve this.

Hi Hussain
Nice post , I have tried the above mentioned article but I am getting this error
java.lang.RuntimeException: UInable to get password for RPD
I have mentioned password for all the rpd related connection pools ,but in the moveplan I couldn’t find any section where we have to explicitly specify the rpd password
Can you please help out if you have ever seen this error
Hi,
What is the version of OBIEE?

Hi Hussain,
Thanks for such a nice post on T2P, I am following your steps to clone, Since I am doing this in my organization so I dont have separate database to export the MDS and BIPLATFORM schemas and import in new database, I have asked database admin to export these schemas and import in the same database with some prefix (like DEV_MDS is existing one and cloned name is DEVCL_MDS).
Could you please confirm in moveplan.xml do I need to do any changes except the schema name change ? and which password file you added in the moveplan.xml (/u02/clone_bkp/pwd/passwd.txt) in your youtube video ?
Thanks in advance,
Abhishek
